Industrial Painting Supervisor

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for supervising all aspects of the painting process and the painting team and ensuring quality and production standards are met. Additionally responsible for the safety, inventory management and overall client expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Hire, coach, review, supervise assigned employees
  • Plan and develop work schedules, equipment usage schedules, priority of painting expenditures and procedures for equipment maintenance
  • Assign and monitor the work of paint shop employees performing a variety of painting projects; estimate material and labor
  • Work with outsourced painters to insure on time delivery of painted goods
  • Monitor the acquisition and use of materials and work with vendors to maintain inventory; report paint usage to Iowa DNR/EPA
  • Interpret policies and enforce safety regulations and adhere to proper codes and standards; train or inform employees of new work methods or procedures, changes in safety regulations, and work policies
  • Ensure budgeting guidelines are met; prioritize shop expenditures to stay within budget; assist in preparation of capital and operations budgets.
  • Maintain time, payroll, and material records and submits reports as required

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a federally approved technical training program in painting preferred
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience
  • 5 years of progressively responsible painting experience including knowledge of tools, equipment and materials common to painting trade
  • Minimum of 3 years procurement work experience
  • Skill in the preparation and application of paints to different types of surfaces
  • Experience in estimating time and material requirements of work projects assigned
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent team building skills

LANGUAGE ABILITY
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

COGNITIVE DEMANDS
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of industry specific software, industry specific systems and other web-based software programs, Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear. Also must stoop, bend, reach and lift up to 50 lbs. Visually inspecting material and storage areas well (either naturally or with corrective lenses). Remaining calm during emergencies and respond appropriately. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the location.
